Survivor and Fear Factor Election
By Mary MacElveen, Nov 9, 2004

Many Americans watch television programs such as Survivor and Fear Factor which label themselves as reality TV when nothing can be farther from the truth. People escape into these shows where their focus is taken away from many of the issues that do in real life effect them all. Karl Marx once said, "Religion is the opiate of the masses" today, I would say that this equally goes for television as well.

Many will sit glued to their TVs and can tell you verbatim of what is happening to the cast of characters on these shows, but do they know what pieces of legislation are presently in the hands of those that they elected to lead them? In most cases, many Americans cannot. They depend too heavily on a representative government to actually find out how they are being represented. Hang on, Americans, we are in for a rough ride.

This past Election Day where I thought Americans would finally get it and reject George W. Bush and the Republican Party in totality, the opposite happened. I stood mesmerized as the results came in. I stood in total and abject fear for my country's future. And I asked myself this question, how are we going to survive? Un-reality TV just became very real for all of us and there is no changing the channels.

As I was reading Newsday yesterday, I came across a brief editorial "BUSH'S BIG PLANS" that would strike real fear into any rational person where the first paragraph reads like this, "Don't expect a kinder, gentler President George W. Bush. He won the election, has brand-new political capital and plans to spend it on the projects he campaigned on." And there is no changing the channel from this real life Fear Factor, America.

Also cited in this editorial is this hair raising message, "Though Democrats are in the minority, they still have a role to play in this government. But they had better be prepared. Bush has given them fair warning. He's coming after them." Coming after them? That sounds like fascism to me. So much for a man who said he will unite this country. And just how will we survive. Who will be the victors on this real life Survivor?

The true Fear Factor is being felt by innocent Iraqi citizens including women and children as we continue our bombing in Fallujah in direct defiance of the United Nations. We are seeing to their very extinction and the uniformed masses in this country just gave Bush carte blanche to do so. Where is the moral lesson there?

This man who ran as the moral leader is not showing any by this action. It is not proportionate. It is not justified. We have no business slaughtering civilians. We are not acting in our own self defense. This is just plain murder and on Election Day, Americans sanctioned this. America, those of you who voted for him have real blood on your hands and not fake blood as used on television shows.

There will be no immunity challenge as many seniors will still have to choose between eating and taking their medicines. They will not be allowed to leave this Survivor Island and head to Canada to purchase low cost medicines. So, they will continue to live within their own Fear Factor. Will many of us who will depend upon Social Security and Medicare in the future face similar situations? Yes, and there is no changing the channel now.

As I was reading many religious Internet news groups last night, many Christians are overjoyed at this Bush victory and are asserting their beliefs almost crushingly on all of us. If there is anything to fear, right now, it does not come from al Qaeda, it comes from these evangelical Christians who are praying for the second coming of Christ, also known as Armageddon. Well, by these evangelicals backing Bush, I am living in my own Fear Factor that they just got what they wanted and prayed for. I fear them more than I do al Qaeda. But, here is where they are missing the point, Christ said, "In My time, not yours"

With jobs that will continue to go overseas, workers here will be living again in their own Fear Factor where they will wish to be the victor on Survivor Island. By not being able to support their families, this administration has just voted them off of this island.

Women who are pro choice will now live in their own Fear Factor living in the abject fear of Roe V. Wade being overturned and rightfully so. Especially when Justice Rehnquist has taken ill and many other Supreme Court justices getting up there in age.

In essence America, those paid advertisers also known as political contributors to Bush's real life Fear Factor and Survivor Island have made sure that you cannot change channels now. You who have voted for him must live with the repercussions as will those of us who did not. As I said, America, hang on, it is going to be a rough ride.

To Governor Taft,

This past summer, my family and I traveled to your state where we visited Cedar Point to ride the many exciting rides that park has to offer. We spent close to $2,000 and loved every minute of it. We came home and I was telling everyone that I spoke with to visit Cedar Point. We had planned on visiting Cedar Point again this upcoming summer, but due to the election fraud that has taken place in your state due to those Diebold machines which I would just love to take a hammer to them, our plans just changed. We will not be visiting your state, spending our hard earned money and spending days there. We shall go to another state to vacation. By the way, I am on many political lists where my writings reach out to literally thousands.

I was so looking forward to riding the Millenium Force or the Dragster, but your state has taken us all on a ride where the only screams coming from that ride will be screams of pain and not joy.

Sincerely,
Mary MacElveen
