Morella Ads Attack Opponent

As sad as it is true, the Washington Post reported this morning that the Morella campaign has launched a new, negative television ad designed to discourage Democrats from voting on November 5th. Pasted below is the lead paragraph and a link to the complete story on this newest, ugly tactic.

I am deeply gratified that Mark Shriver has repudiated this new ad, and that he will join me, Senators Sarbanes and Milkuski and Lt. Governor Townsend tomorrow at a rally to denounce these kind of tactics, to rally Democrats to reject negative ads and to begin an effort to turn out the vote in the highest numbers in our history!

Dear Friend of Chris Van Hollen,
I am writing to share with you the press statement that I issued today after seeing the new negative television ad from the Morella campaign.
After seeing Congresswoman Morella's most recent campaign ad today, I called Senator Van Hollen to reiterate my support for his general election campaign.
It's unfortunate that the Congresswoman has chosen to go negative in her most recent ad. The voters of Maryland's 8th Congressional District deserve to see a debate on the issues of importance, not negative ads.
