![]() Kerry Thank-You Received with Gratitude ![]() Marjorie Gersten and Mike Hersh present Spine Card to Senator Kerry
The four organizations praised Sen. Kerry for his courage in undertaking this principled fight to protect the Supreme Court and the nation against Alito's extremism. Regardless of the outcome, the action was vitally important on principle--a symbolic endeavor on behalf of not only the Supreme Court but the Constitution and separation of powers. Karen Bradley, Marjorie Gersten, and Mike Hersh of PDA and DCP met with Sen. Kerry in his Russell Building office on Capitol Hill to present the award on behalf of the four grassroots progressive organizations. The Senator was warm and gracious, saying he'd display the certificate among his other awards and photographs.
![]() Kerry and Hersh The thank-you clearly brightened the Senator's day, and he expressed genuine appreciation for the recognition. He noted that he is deeply disturbed about what is going on in our government. He returned to the Senate floor to vote with a deep breath and focused determination. Bradley of the DCP reported, "I think that the simple thank-yous we give via the Backbone Campaign are so deeply appreciated by those who toil on the progressive side of the aisle. I realize how discouraging it must be to be treated as badly as they are at times, and how vitally important it is to convey the gratitude of the progressive movement for their efforts on our behalf." It's not too late to thank all the Senators who filibustered, and spank those who shrank from the task: http://backbonecampaign.org/storydetail.cfm?ID=147 We hope and expect more Democrats in the Senate will step up and lead, giving us more opportunities to recognize their courage and strength in the weeks and months ahead. Let's keep leading and eventually the leaders will have no choice but to follow. More information: © Copyright 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 by MikeHersh.com and identified authors.
