Inquiry on Iraq Could Support Impeachment
By AfterDowningStreet.org and Greg Palast, May 31, 2005

AfterDowningStreet.org writes: Urge your member of Congress to support a Resolution of Inquiry directing the House Judiciary Committee to launch a formal investigation into whether sufficient grounds exist for the House to impeach President Bush. The recent release of the Downing Street Memo (See: http://tinyurl.com/b39p8) provides new and compelling evidence that the President of the United States has been actively engaged in a conspiracy to deceive and mislead the United States Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war against Iraq. If true, such conduct constitutes a High Crime under Article II, Section 4 of the United States Constitution. More Information: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org

The Montgomery County Progressive Alliance, Bush Occupation.com and MikeHersh.com have joined with Global Exchange, Gold Star Families for Peace, Democrats.com, Veterans for Peace, Code Pink, Progressive Democrats of America, Democracy Rising, the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Velvet Revolution, and Brad Blog to form the AfterDowningStreet.org coalition. These organizations, are asking their members to contact their congress members to urge support of a Resolution of Inquiry.

Greg Palast wrote: "Here it is. The smoking gun. The memo that has 'IMPEACH HIM' written all over it. The top-level government memo marked 'SECRET AND STRICTLY PERSONAL,' dated eight months before Bush sent us into Iraq, following a closed meeting with the President, reads, 'Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam through military action justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.' Read that again: 'The intelligence and facts were being fixed....'"

Palast continued: "For years, after each damning report on BBC TV, viewers inevitably ask me, 'Isn't this grounds for impeachment?' - vote rigging, a blind eye to terror and the bin Ladens before 9-11, and so on. Evil, stupidity and self-dealing are shameful but not impeachable. What's needed is a 'high crime or misdemeanor.' And if this ain't it, nothing is."
