Democrats Will Win BIG With Your Help
By Mike Hersh, Nov 1, 2002

Most Republican policies are a waste of time and money -- at best. They hurt regular American families and the environment, and they cause more problems than they solve. We need real 21st century solutions to our problems, not band-aids and bribes for the big special interests. Democrats know this, and work for American middle class and working families.

Republicans -- the party of Strom "99" Thurmond who ran for President against Harry S. Truman in 1948 -- mock Walter Mondale for his age. Fine. Because we understand what the Republicans do not. It's not the age of the bottle that counts, it's the quality of its contents.

We'll take Vice President, Senator, and Ambassador Mondale's experience, wisdom and forward-thinking progress over tried and failed Republican backwards reactionary regression. We'll make that choice Election Day and everyday.

Republicans are still trying to bring back the horrible and wrong-headed policies which gave us rivers catching fire, children with brain damage from preventable poisoning, and the Great Depression.

These policies fail and fail, costing American jobs, health and even lives. It's not that Republicans never learn. They learned that if they do the bidding of the oil companies, the insurance companies and the big drug companies, they can get huge campaign war chests and try to buy elections by tricking voters. They're doing it again, as always.

I've listened to conservative, moderate and liberal Democrats from all across the country debate their Republican opponents for the Senate, Congress and Governor. On every issue, Democrats bring fresh ideas and oppose greedy special interests. In every debate, Republicans tacitly admit they will sell out their voters and do whatever the big companies tell them to do.

That's why Democrats are just better than Republicans on policy. Many voters know this, and the GOP is aware of this. That's why Republicans are paying a fortune to slick political handlers and airing $millions in attack ads to hide from their records. They're also crossdressing as Democrats, voting one way on an issue but going the other way on the budget -- not putting our tax money where their mouth is.

Republicans try to have it both ways, and end up getting nothing done. Republicans in the Senate blocked a vote on prescription drugs and homeland security, but now they dishonestly blame Democrats. Republicans do nothing -- at best -- then blame someone else. That's the Republican way. That's the wrong way for your district, your state and America.

People should understand just how desperate and disgusting Republicans are. They're pulling out all stops to suppress minority votes, lie about Democrats, and deceive voters about their own draconian policies.

From "piratizing" Social Security to putting polluters and abusers in charge, Republicans want what's best for their narrow special interest friends. That may be good for the Republicans and their powerful elite special interests, but it's what's worst for regular working Americans.
