Bush's 'Christian values'
By E. O'Connell, May 11, 2004

By appointing John Ashcroft, and allowing him to appoint a proven sadist to oversee the Iraqi prison system, George Bush demonstrates his 'Christian values.' The media parrots his tepid outrage. Bush and the media both ignored the findings of the IRC (Red Cross) and Amnesty International that abuse of prisoners in Iraq was a widespread and serious problem.

By allowing Rumsfeld to break the military's chain of command structures, inserting highly-paid, GOP friendly private contractors into the system, Bush destroyed all accountability. As with Enron and Arthur Anderson, various parties will point fingers. No one but soldiers following orders will be punished. Scapegoats of a system which ordered them to 'loosen up' prisoners, but which neglected to inform them of their Geneva Conventions responsibilities.

The administration is decrying the pictures, not the abuse. They ordered the abuse. They didn't expect that the underlings wouldn't know enough to hide the evidence of their crimes. Rumsfeld, in his astonishing congressional testimony, made it clear that he believed the true culprits in this scandal were our freedom of speech, digital photography, and the internet.

If you are outraged, do something. Don't suffer in silence. Wear a shirt that tells the world you're not supporting the Bush Occupation: Read more, check out protest wear: http://www.bushoccupation.com/
