![]() Question? "A pondering college freshman writes," Question: I was looking through your site, and i wondered why you have so many one-sided articles. It seemed that everything you had was either pro-democrat, or anti-republican. There was an article where you stated "You'd think Republicans would know better than this. Texas Republicans mocked Hispanics by airing radio ads featuring a "funny Hispanic accent." Clueless California Republicans brought back anti-Hispanic demagogue..." but, what does that have to do with those people being republican? How can you characterize one Republican racist, and conclude that at least a majority of republicans are racist? Please, if i'm not totally informed, to give me access to this information. Thank you. -A pondering college freshman
First of all, We didn't "conclude that at least a majority of republicans are racist." We pointed to examples of Republican exploitation of racism for electoral gain - some very recent. You're a freshman, but you are in college so you should do more careful reading before you get to pondering. Second, I hope you can read and think well enough to understand that this is not about "one Republican racist." Of course more than "one Republican racist" humiliated Rep. Bonilla and aired those anti-Hispanic ads in Texas. More than "one Republican racist" threw qualified black voters off the rolls in Florida. More than "one Republican racist" chose Pete Wilson to help Ahnold Gropenegger's campaign. More than "one Republican racist" helped Gov. Bob Ehrlich punish GOP Hispanics who refused to blindly accept his decrees against a top-level GOP Hispanic in Maryland. You don't have to be great in math to know that's a lot more than "one Republican racist." This is about Republicans coast-to-coast systematically exploiting racism in elections. They've done that consciously and constantly at least since Nixon's "Southern Strategy" which Reagan, Bush I and Bush II all used with great success. Appeals to white racists, blatant and a bit disguised. Reagan's 1980 campaign kick-off in Philadelphia Mississippi, where the Klan killed 3 "Freedom Riders." Bush I's "Willie" Horton ads which he admitted were racist and disgusting when he thought they couldn't be traced to his campaign via Lee Atwater - who weepingly apologized for them on his death bed. Bush II's homage to racist Bob Jones U and his veto then lie about vetoing a Texas hate crimes law. The recent racist actions by Republican candidates and officials discussed above. As for "one-sided" articles, our articles are only "one-sided" in favor of the truth. When Republicans lie and fail, truthful articles should show them as liars and failures. That's a shock to people getting their news from right-wing corporate news or late night comedians, but we urge you to keep reading and thinking for yourself.
