[PDA] July Political Report

It has been another busy month for Progressive Democrats of America. The grassroots have been mobilized from coast to coast on issues ranging from the Downing Street Minutes to ending the occupation of Iraq to CAFTA. There is no rest for PDA as the machinery of the right-wing agenda continues to sink to new lows.

In this letter, we want to inform you of the work we are doing at the national and local level in regard to coalition building and supporting our progressive friends on the Hill.

These initiatives are moved forward by the work of local chapters. We hope you will take these actions to your chapter and network of activists.

PDA and Afterdowningstreet.org Host July 23rd Events.

The most compelling evidence we have that Bush deliberately lied about Iraq are the Downing Street Minutes. On Saturday, July 23, there will be over 150 public events held across the U.S. to mark the third anniversary of that historic meeting on Downing Street.

PDA is helping to organize five major town hall meetings.  These events will be hosted by members of Congress, including John Conyers in Detroit, Barbara Lee in Oakland, and Maxine Waters in Inglewood, California.

Constitutional attorney John Bonifaz, co-founder of Afterdowningstreet.org and PDA National Advisory Board Member, will lead a town hall meeting that will be moderated by PDA Director Tim Carpenter in Northampton, Mass.

For details on these events and others around the country, see this map. Sign up to attend an event or to host oneClick here for complete documents related to this action.

PDA is working with Rep. Lee on No Permanent Bases Resolution

PDA’s policy on Iraq has been consistent: No Permanent Military Bases. That said, PDA proudly endorses Rep. Barbara Lee’s Resolution calling for the same (H. Con. Res. 197). You can find more about this Resolution by clicking here.

The resolution states that Congress declares that it is the policy of the United States not to enter into any agreement with the Government of Iraq that would lead to a permanent United States military presence in Iraq. Please write to your members of Congress in support of this Resolution by clicking here to find your members.

PDA continues its work with Robert Greenwald to expose the "Wal-Mart Syndrome" in America.

This is at the heart of what is shaping up to be one of the largest – and most important -- national grassroots efforts for social change in recent history.  More importantly, this is an invitation for YOU to participate in this grassroots campaign by hosting a screening of the movie. Click here for more information.

This summer, PDA activists have not wavered. From our chapter in San Diego, to our chapter in Boston we have activists organizing neighborhood by neighborhood. This coast to coast action is not possible without the dedication of each individual activist. Each day it is in honor to hear from you and work side by side with you. Please continue to support this work by volunteering or making a contribution today.
